Replit vs Base44
Pick Base44 if you do not code and need a practical web app, such as an internal tool or a small business app, with login, user management and a database already included. Starter is $16 a month billed yearly, the lowest entry price of the two.
Pick Replit if you want to see and edit the code, or build more than a standard web app. Its free Starter plan only runs the Lite build mode and keeps one published app online for 30 days, so plan on Core at $20 a month ($18 billed yearly) for real work.

What each tool actually is
Base44 is a no-code AI app builder with the backend included. You describe the app, it builds it, and a database, authentication and user management come with every plan. It is aimed at people building internal tools and small business apps. Wix bought Base44 in June 2025.
Replit is a cloud workspace with an AI agent that builds and hosts apps. When Replit Agent builds something, you get a full project: files, a terminal, a database and a publish button in one window. You can ignore the code, but it is always right there.
In short, Base44 hides the engineering and Replit shows it. Which one you want depends on whether you plan to ever touch the code.
Free plans: how far you get before paying
- Base44 Free: 25 message credits and 100 integration credits a month, up to 5 apps.
- Replit Starter: daily Agent credits up to a monthly cap, Lite build only, and one published app that goes offline after 30 days.
Base44's free plan lets you build and keep several small apps, but its monthly message credits can go in one afternoon. Replit's free plan is fine for exploring a project and learning how it fits together, but the free published app does not stay online, so it is not a home for anything you need to keep running.
Paid plans and how credits work
Base44 Starter costs $16 a month billed yearly. Replit Core costs $20 a month, or $18 a month billed yearly.
Both charge AI work in credits, and they split costs in different ways:
- Base44 separates message credits, spent when you talk to the builder, from integration credits, spent when your finished app uses Base44's built-in integrations.
- Replit bills production databases, storage and publishing from your plan's credits, on top of what the Agent uses.
Either way, clear requests save money. Describe the screens, fields and rules in one message instead of fixing things one tiny step at a time. Plan limits change often, so check both pricing pages before you subscribe.
Backend, hosting and who owns the code
Base44 includes backend, database, authentication and user management on all plans, and hosts the app for you. For code, it offers two-way GitHub sync that exports the full source.
Replit gives you databases, storage and publishing too, billed from credits. The whole project lives in your workspace, so the code is already in your hands, and you can run things that are not a standard web app, such as a script or an API.
If a developer may take over later, both paths work. With Base44 they can work in GitHub while you keep using the builder. With Replit they can open the same workspace you used.
Choose Base44 if
- You have never written code and do not want to see any.
- You need an internal tool, tracker, portal or small business app.
- You want login, user roles and a database without setting anything up.
- You want the lowest entry price and are fine paying yearly.

Choose Replit if
- You can read a little code, or want to learn while you build.
- You want to build more than a web app: an API, a bot, a script.
- You want every file visible and editable in one workspace.
- You are fine paying for Core to unlock Full build and keep apps online.

Not sure? A two-hour test
Write one paragraph about your app: who uses it, the three screens it needs, and what data it saves. Paste the same paragraph into both tools on their free plans and give each an hour.
Then ask: which result is closer to what you described, and in which tool did you understand what went wrong when something broke? If you never wanted to see the code, Base44 will likely feel easier. If you kept clicking into the files, Replit is your tool. Still stuck? The Finder narrows the field from four questions.
